Save As dialog box (File menu)
The following options allow you to specify the name and location of the file you're about to save:
Save In
This is the folder in which the file will be saved. Use the down arrow button at the end of Save In to browse to a different location. The folder button with an up arrow inside it can be pressed to move up one level in the folder hierarchy. The folder button with a starburst on its right side will create a new folder in the current folder.
File Name
Type a new filename to save a deed file with a different name. DeedMapper adds the extension you specify in the Save File As Type box.
Save As Type
Use this to select the form you wish to save the file in.
• Deed file – this is the standard deed file format. Prior to saving, you can use the View Filter to reduce the number of parcels that are output to the file.
• CSV file – Comma Separated Value file format, suitable for inputting to a database or viewing in a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel. If this option is selected, the data in the Table View is written to the output file. Prior to saving, you can use the View Filter to reduce the number of parcels that are output to the file.
• KML file – Keyhole Markup Language file format, suitable for viewing in Google Earth and other applications. If this option is selected the metes and bounds information for all visible platted parcels is written to the output file. Prior to saving, you can use the View Filter to reduce the number of parcels that are output to the file. This can reduce the time it takes to create the KML file. Google Earth can read your KML file and display the parcels on a background of aerial maps of your research area. It does this using latitude and longitude information that DeedMapper puts into the KML file. The latitude and longitude information comes from DeedMapper background maps or background images that are part of your project. Important: If your project does not contain DeedMapper background maps or images it is not possible to create a KML file.
