Measuring direction and distance
Measuring the distance and direction between points
It’s handy to measure the distance between points on a map or parcel. You can use this to determine the closing line dimensions on parcels that “return straight to the beginning point”.
1. Go to the Plot View (F5 shortcut key)
2. Open the Tools menu and select the Lat./Long. command, or press the crosshair button on the toolbar.
3. Move the cursor to the starting point for the measurement. Click the left mouse button once.
4. Move the cursor to the ending point of the measurement. Look in the Status Bar at the bottom of the window. You’ll see the direction and distance displayed to the right of the latitude and longitude information. The format is (N or S)/degrees/minutes/seconds(W or E); distance in poles (rods).
When you use the crosshair cursor you cannot select parcels. Return to parcel selection mode by opening the Tools menu and selecting the Pointer command, or press the pointer button on the toolbar.
